Iconic Italian Winery Revolutionizing Barbaresco and Barolo

Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, the Gaja winery is one of Italy’s most influential and respected wine producers. For five generations, the Gaja family has crafted wines that define the elegance and complexity of Piedmont’s Langhe hills. From Giovanni’s pioneering work in Barbaresco to his son Angelo’s vision and the uncompromising quality inspired by Clotilde Rey, the family has remained dedicated to excellence.

Angelo Gaja, who joined the winery in 1961, revolutionised Italian winemaking by blending traditional techniques with bold innovations in the vineyards and cellars. Today, alongside his family, he continues this legacy, producing wines celebrated for their balance, complexity, and longevity. The estate spans 96 hectares in the Barbaresco and Barolo districts and, since 1994, has expanded to Tuscany with Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino and Ca’ Marcanda in Bolgheri.

Referred to as the “Godfather of Italian Wines,” Gaja remains a global icon, consistently recognised by Wine Spectator, James Suckling, and Decanter for its groundbreaking contributions to Italian wine.
