Jansz is Tasmania’s leading producer of sparkling wines, renowned for crafting elegant, refined wines using the traditional method. Established in the cool climate of northern Tasmania, Jansz focuses on creating sparkling wines that rival the quality of Champagne, capturing the purity and freshness of the island's unique terroir.
The name "Jansz" honors Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman, who first sighted the island in 1642, and the vineyard was initially named after his ship, the Heemskerk. Founded in 1975, Jansz became a pioneer in Tasmania’s sparkling wine production. In 1986, the renowned Champagne house Louis Roederer partnered with Heemskerk Wines to produce Tasmania’s first premium vintage sparkling wine, recognizing the similarities between Tasmania’s cool climate and that of Champagne.
In 1997, the Hill-Smith family acquired the vineyard, furthering Jansz's journey and solidifying its position as the most highly regarded sparkling wine house in Australia.
